Four additions from Canada and England take us into grain transport, bilingual labels, corporate disclosures, and the waterways where people swim.
A bag of flour, a label in two languages, a company's annual report, a favourite swimming spot. None looks like the beginning of a data story at first. This week's additions invite us to look again—at the places, words, and paperwork behind familiar parts of life.

What happened upstream while people were swimming?

Storm overflows can release sewage mixed with rainwater. These water-company returns record how often and how long monitored overflows discharged during May to September. The data is newly listed in the national catalog this week, but describes earlier swimming seasons—not current conditions.
Why it's worth exploring
Follow a waterway you know and compare the records over time. Before comparing companies or places, look at how much monitoring was missing and the explanations supplied. A long discharge is not a measurement of its volume or bacteria, and these records cannot tell you whether it is safe to swim today.

Where does the harvest go next?

Grain elevators are places where crops are collected and stored before travelling onward. This map links those places to operators, railways, storage capacity, and, where available, the number of rail cars that can be positioned for loading. It draws on Canadian Grain Commission listings.
Why it's worth exploring
Start with a farming region you know. Are storage sites spread out, or clustered along a few railway lines? The map can help frame questions about distance and access—but capacity is not the same as grain actually shipped, and it cannot tell you whether a site is busy today.

The care behind a word on a label

A pesticide label has to communicate across languages without losing its meaning. Health Canada's terminology workbook brings together words used in label review, including pests, plants, equipment, and protection. Its categories make an unusually practical language dataset.
Why it's worth exploring
What does it take to describe the same insect or activity in two languages? Explore how terms are grouped and paired, or use the workbook to plan interviews with translators. Keep the context: an accepted term is not suitable for every label, and this is not a guide to using a product.

A starting point for following corporate promises

Organizations submit reports about addressing forced labour in their supply chains. This downloadable register helps you find those reports by title, organization, date, and subject, and identifies revised or joint submissions. The linked reports contain the organizations' own accounts, not independently verified findings.
Why it's worth exploring
Choose an industry and ask who has reported, when, and what you would want to ask next. The register is a route into documents and interviews—not a scorecard of good and bad companies. Appearing in it proves neither compliance nor wrongdoing, and linked third-party reports have their own reuse rights.
