England Potential Evapotranspiration, 1961–2026
A long view of the atmosphere's thirst
The Environment Agency estimates potential evapotranspiration from homogenised weather-station data. PET excludes interception; PETI includes it. These are estimates for well-watered grass, not actual soil moisture loss or household water use. A water day runs 09:00 to 09:00.
“During a long hot spell, how much water could the air take from well-watered grass?”

Before publication, recheck the chosen year's ZIP, documentation, units, PET versus PETI interception, 1-km grid, and 09:00–09:00 water day. Potential evaporation assumes well-watered grass; it is not actual evaporation. Do not infer drought damage from a single cell.
